Resort life

Working at the resort has been a unique experience for me—one that I’d describe as both beautiful and sweet. Though I’m away from my family, it has proven to be a good opportunity for saving money, as my expenses are minimal. Besides a small amount spent on cosmetics, most of my salary goes directly into my bank account, making it a great job for financial saving.

My daily routine starts early in the morning, whether I’m working as a receptionist, waiter, or room attendant. I begin by rising for dawn prayers, followed by breakfast in the cafeteria. The meal options are diverse, including Maldivian breakfasts like roshi, fish curry, chicken curry, omelets, boiled eggs, various types of cornflakes with milk, different kinds of mashuni, fruits, tea, and a variety of coffee. English breakfasts are also available, with choices like sausages, eggs, grilled tomatoes, baked beans, and toast or fried bread. After breakfast, I return to my shared room, where three other staff members also stay, to refresh myself before heading to work. I approach my job with care and interest, and at 10 a.m., I take a short coffee break at the cafeteria, occasionally enjoying juice with donuts or a croissant. Work resumes until lunchtime, where the cafeteria again offers a variety of meals that change daily. After lunch, I return to my room to refresh and then visit the mosque for noon prayers before resuming work. Some days, I finish at 6 p.m., while on others, I may have a break at 3 p.m. for a three-hour rest before continuing until 11 p.m. Dinner is usually at 6:30 p.m., and I make time for my Asr, Maghrib, and Isha prayers throughout the day. Occasionally, I’ll take an evening coffee around 9 p.m. This has been my daily routine while working at the resort, and I’ve truly enjoyed it.

I work seven days a week, without taking off days or even for holidays like Eid or Hajj. However, every year on Eid, the resort management organizes a trip to a nearby island for anyone who wishes to participate. Traveling as a group by speed boat is a fun and bonding experience. The people there are friendly and supportive, and we share a strong connection with one another, making my time there memorable and fulfilling.
