Today’s fishing expedition was a long and challenging one. The fishermen set out in the early hours, casting off from their island at 3 a.m. Under the cover of darkness, they navigated the waters with their nets and fishing gear, prepared for hours of hard work. The sea was calm, and the stars were still visible as they began their journey. For the next seven hours, they worked tirelessly, hauling in a variety of fish with each cast, their expertise and patience paying off as the sun began to rise.
By the time they returned to their island, they had a substantial catch—enough to make the hours of labor worthwhile. Once ashore, they carefully sorted the fish by type, size, and quality, as each category would determine the price. Soon, locals and buyers began gathering at the jetty, interested in securing the freshest fish for their kitchens and businesses. The fishermen greeted each customer warmly, showcasing their different types of fish, which ranged from small local varieties to larger prized catches.
The pricing was straightforward but varied based on the size, quality, and species of the fish. Larger, high-quality fish commanded a premium price, while smaller or more common fish were sold at a more affordable rate. For the fishermen, this process was not only about making a sale but also about connecting with the community. Selling fish at the jetty has long been a tradition, a time when stories are shared, and relationships are built.
As the morning continued, the fish were sold one by one, disappearing into baskets and bags. For these fishermen, the day’s work was almost done, their catch providing food and supporting their community, a testament to their skill and dedication to their craft.
